Gazeley has confirmed its agreement to build a major distribution hub for B&Q at its Triangle Site in Swindon.
The first unit at the 98-acre site will be a 796,649 sq ft B&Q distribution centre.
Located alongside the A419, the site was granted outline planning permission for the development of three industrial or logistics units in October 2008.
Gazeley recently submitted its application to the Swindon Borough Council for the £70m development which will create around 600 jobs.
As agreed in the outline planning permission, Gazeley will make a payment of £150,000 to be used on public art by the Council with a further £700,000 for the Great Western Community Forest.
G.Park Swindon is the biggest distribution warehouse development on the M4.
Don Morgan, planning director of Gazeley, said: “The site was selected because of the excellent local transport network, its superb strategic location, and the good quality local labour force.”
Ian Playford, property director at Kingfisher, owners of B&Q said: “Our agreement with Gazeley will lead to the establishment of a new regional distribution centre in the South for high volume products, bringing product closer to the stores therefore improving customer service as well as reducing transport miles, transport costs and CO2 emissions.”
