Gen Two Real Estate has exchanged on a 10,800 sq ft life sciences building at 1 Lion Works in Whittlesford, south of Cambridge, ahead of completing the deal later this year.
The facility was recently renovated and is currently let to Alchemab Therapeutics, which acquired the lease from Avacta Therapeutics in 2022 to capitalise on a bespoke lab space.
Alchemab was founded in 2019 to research the antibody response of resilient individuals to develop drugs based on naturally derived antibodies to prevalent, hard-to-treat diseases which do not have disease-modifying therapies.
The building is adjacent to Gen Two’s 11,000 sq ft lab building known as Recodery, which has been occupied by Constructive Bio since the end of November last year.
The deal also marks the family-run life sciences developer and investor’s third purchase within the South Cambridge biotech cluster, the other premises being Alchemy, a 5.2-acre brownfield site in Fowlmere.
Daniel Sterling, co-founder of Gen Two, said: “This acquisition will increase our holding not only within the South Cambridge science cluster, but also at Lion Works more specifically, where our Recodery building is also located, where we are establishing a biotech hub.”
