Geoff Thomas to retire from DTZ

Geoff Thomas, one of Birmingham’s most senior agents, is to retire from DTZ.

After 38 years with the firm, Thomas will step down from his role as regional chairman at the end of December. He will continue on a part-time consultancy basis.

DTZ will not replace Thomas directly however David Tonks, director, who currently heads up DTZ’s office agency and development team in Birmingham will take over Thomas’ role as head of office agency and development across the Midlands and South West regions.

Jon Leedham regional managing director, will remain in his existing role as business unit manager for Midlands and the South West.

Known for being instrumental in developing DTZ’s Birmingham office, Thomas joined the firm as a graduate in 1972 when it was Chesshire Gibson & Company. He was made partner in 1982 and six years later the 200-year old company merged with Debenham Tewson before becoming DTZ in 1993.

In 1997 Thomas was appointed regional chairman covering the Midlands and the position was extended to encompass the firm’s South West region in 2002.

During his time at DTZ, Thomas has been involved in a number of iconic developments in the city including: Victoria Square House, the Wesleyan building, Calthorpe House and No.1 Colmore Square. More recently, he advised Wragge & Co on the acquisition of Two Snow Hill, the largest ever prelet in the city centre, and the redevelopment of New Street station.

Commenting on his decision, Thomas said: “I have been very fortunate to have played a part in the exciting evolution of DTZ… I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as regional chairman for the last 13 years but feel now is the right time to hand over the reins.”
