German engineering company eyes Mansfield EZ site

A German engineering company is planning to open a major factory in the Mansfield Enterprise Zone, Nottinghamshire.

The company, which is refusing to disclose its identity for fear of antagonising its German workers, requires 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) on 2.02ha (5 acres).

It is understood the company has selected the 18.21ha (45 acre) Crown Farm Industrial Estate, formerly the site of the Mansfield Colliery.

Maurice Carr of Leicester surveyor David Storer & Partners, who is representing the German company, said a final decision on whether the company commits itself to Mansfield will be made in January, 1997.

Carr said the German company already has a presence in Britain. “They like the idea of Britain because of its low employment costs and Government grants which make it cheap to locate here.”
