The UK is finally getting a national property show. MIPIM UK will take place at London Olympia on 15-17 October 2014.
More than 300 senior industry figures gathered at London’s Claridge’s on Thursday night for the launch, with deputy London mayor Sir Edward Lister speaking on behalf of Boris Johnson.
More than 3,000 delegates are expected to attend next year’s show, which will focus on leasing and investment markets within the office, retail, industrial, residential, healthcare and sports property sectors.
MIPIM director Filippo Rean said he expected the event to attract large, national property firms as well as regional UK players. And with France, through SIMI, and Germany, with EXPO Real, already staging domestically-focused events, he insisted the UK event would complement MIPIM in Cannes.
“The UK is often described as the real estate capital of the world. Despite its size and liquidity and being very open, it still lacks a national marketplace for the property sector. It is against this backdrop that a dedicated, national real estate event such as MIPIM UK has been conceived.”
MIPIM UK deputy director Julien Sausset said the conference programme would comprise nine major half-day “summits” covering retail, office, industrial, residential, logistics, tech, sustainability, finance and transport.
Estates Gazette is supporting the event and will be producing daily magazines from the show.
Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive, Manchester city council
“Manchester has a world-class offer and through our unique private and public partnership approach we are able to demonstrate our outstanding economic assets; our diverse business base, flagship regeneration schemes and property offer, and our local ambitions for growth, all of which remain critical to attracting global investment into Manchester.”
Lurene Joseph, chief executive, Leeds and Partners,
“The Leeds city region is the second largest in the UK, generating 4% of national economic output and employing 1.3m people. We are delighted to be associated with MIPIM UK, which we recognise as a prime opportunity to drive economic growth for UK plc and to secure investment and jobs in Leeds and the wider city region.”
Boris Johnson, mayor of London
“MIPIM UK will highlight London’s relentless growth as a global city and bring together key property investors with office, residential, industrial and retail sectors.”
