Grocery delivery company Getir is preparing to open a new storage and delivery hub in a Westminster car park.
The local council is likely to give the Turkish company the go-ahead for its proposals at next week’s planning meeting. Getir wants permission to convert 15 car parking spaces at the Harley Street Underground Car Park, W1.
Nearby residents are unimpressed and have lodged objections over the effect the scheme could have on local amenities and its impact on traffic. But planning officers said the residents “would not be unduly harmed” by the plans and recommended it for approval.
The planning officers’ report noted that Getir had previously operated without approval from offices at 96A Clifton Hill, attracting complaints from residents. An application for Getir to work from that site was later refused.
“In contrast to 96A Clifton Street, the application site is located on a mixed-use area, uses electric vehicles which generate less noise, contains all operations and servicing within the car park and there are other storage and distribution uses contained within the car park which have operated without complaint,” the report said.
