GKN hints at alliance with Alvia and Vickers as it looks at acquisitions

GKN is looking at further car component acquisitions. This raises the prospect of a three-way merger with Vickers and Alvis to produce a stronger British business making armoured defence vehicles. GKN announced an 11.3% rise in first-half pre-tax profits to £181m.

Chairman Sir David Lees indicated the company was looking at “one or two” acquisition possibilities in the automotive business which could involve an outlay of around £100m each. The deals are part of a GKN programme involving “bolt-on” additions and joint ventures.
