The Greater London Assembly has called on the Government to pay the additional costs of the mayor and assembly’s move Romney House to More London Bridge, SE1.
Eric Ollerenshaw, deputy leader of the assembly’s Conservative group, today proposed a motion, carried unanimously, asking the Government to fund the move.
Ollerenshaw said that the move would cost the Greater London Authority £3m, with London’s councils having to provide another £3m, with additional yearly costs on top.
“These costs are the Government’s fault, they are forcing the GLA to move to this building, and it is only right that they should meet them,” said Ollerenshaw.
He added: “This building is the wrong size, the wrong design, in the wrong place and, worst of all, at the wrong cost to the capital.
“Londoners want a GLA that solves their problems, not one that is cooped up in some fancy glass building on the Thames and is costing them millions of pounds in additional costs each year.”
