Glasgow canal regeneration plans revealed

A joint venture between Glasgow city council and ISIS Waterside Regeneration has unveiled £100m plans for one of the city’s most deprived areas.

Glasgow regeneration

The Glasgow Canal Regeneration Project has published its masterplan to regenerate Maryhill Locks.

The plans, drawn up by Glasgow architect Elder & Cannon, envisage a mixed-use scheme to transform the area along the Forth and Clyde canal from an industrial wasteland into a Little Venice-style community.

The scheme will comprise up to 800 homes, alongside shops and offices and a health centre, and will link north Glasgow to the city centre.

The proposals form part of the Glasgow Regeneration Project’s 20-year aim to revitalise 1,000-acres of the Glasgow branch of the canal between Maryhill and Port Dundas.

Mark Ryder, chief executive of ISIS Waterside Regeneration, said: “The revitalisation of the Maryhill Locks area is an extremely important element in the long-term regeneration of the canal corridor.

“We are determined to create a family-orientated, vibrant and sustainable place where people choose to live and visit.”
