Watkin Jones has been given the all-clear to redevelop Portcullis House in Glasgow from the city council.
The new project, named the Àrd, will turn the former HMRC building on India Street into student accommodation with 784 beds across 36- and 10-storey buildings, as well as a multi-space facility for the Glasgow Social Enterprise Network charity. Flexible commercial space will also be provided and there will be a 75% increase to the public realm.
A spokesman for Watkin Jones said: “This mixed-use development will serve to address a well-recognised chronic undersupply of student accommodation in the city, also freeing up homes more appropriate for families.
“Redevelopment of the site will form a significant part of an overall renewal of the west end of the city centre, acting as a catalyst for change and enhancing the vitality of this part of the city.”
