Glasgow’s George Square to get green makeover

A green oasis featuring tree-lined promenades and al fresco cafés will transform Glasgow’s George Square.

Green space at the city’s “civic heart” will double to more than 5,500 sq m under the revamp plans, which will “reflect the great and welcoming” place that Glasgow is, according to Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow city council.

Artistic impressions show George Square going back to its “Enlightenment roots” and shaking off its recent past as a pedestrian’s nightmare, a soulless civic space enclosed by a grid of fast-moving and pollution-belching cars, she said.
