Glass ceiling abandoned for the South Bank Centre

Plans have been abandoned to put a £131m “glass ceiling” on the South Bank Centre, London’s largest arts complex. The decision was made after the Arts Council refused the project £75m worth of funding.

Sir Patrick Corby, the chairman of the South Bank, who has beentrying to modernise the centre for eight years, has resigned. He isreplaced by Elliot Bernerd, the chairman of Chelsfield, who is a fellowboard member.

A question remains about what development will take place on the site.
