Gloucester Docks leisure gets planning nod

Crest Nicholson has gained outline permission for its leisure scheme at Gloucester Docks.

The developer’s original plans for the site were turned down last July, because the council believed the proposals would jeopardise regeneration of nearby Blackfriars, but the Government Inspector rejected this as a valid reason.

A revised design for the leisure building is required, but the Government Inspector ruled that ‘provision of a multiplex cinema at the docks, in association with other leisure facilities, is a form of development fully in accord and supported by the Local Plan.’

Crest Nicholson will be submitting a reserved matters application to enable the leisure scheme to proceed quickly.

The leisure scheme will include a multiplex cinema, of which Odeon is tipped to be the operator, a health and fitness club, restaurant, hotel and associated retail.
