Northern Irish developer, Crosslands, has been given the go-ahead for a £40m extension of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline, Fife.
The new development will add a further 174,000sq ft or 27 retail units to the 1980s centre, including a 79,000 sq ft two-storey department store format, which, EGi can reveal, Debenhams has recently signed an agreement on.
Fife council approved the planning application last month, which, in addition to the proposed retail, will include a new car park and bus station.
Andy Bain, retail director at joint development consultants, Eric Young & Co, said: “We have a Marks & Spenser anchoring the front, which is now balanced by the Debenhams at the back.
“This will bring rental parity to Kingsgate: previously the section fronting the High Street was more valuable than the section of the centre by the bus station.”
Cushman & Wakefield were joint development consultants for Crosslands and Keppie architects designed the centre.
