McLaren Group has secured approval for a 646,000 sq ft applied technology centre in Woking, Surrey.
The company said it would conduct Formula 1 engineering at the centre, which is located on land east of the A320 Chertsey Road, and opposite its headquarters.
The building will comprise offices, research and manufacturing space.
Conservationists had objected to building on the 58-acre site, claiming it would damage wildlife.
However, Woking borough council’s approval does not mean the development will definitely go ahead – a final decision on the planning application will be made by the secretary of state.
Terence O’Rourke advised McLaren on planning.
