Trafalgar Global has won outline consent for a mixed-use scheme in Leicester city centre.
The local developer and landowner plans to create a new community on the 108-acre former British Union Shoe Machinery Works (BUSM) site opposite the National Space Centre on Belgrave Road.
The project will cost £200m to build and will comprise: 1,200 flats and townhouses, 35,000 sq ft of commercial space (including 17,200 sq ft of offices), 10,000 sq ft of bars and cafes and 5,400 sq ft of shops.
The privately-funded scheme, which has been designed by architect Marchini Curran Associates, will also incorporate one of the largest parks built in the city for decades.
Marchini Curran’s Nils Feldmann, said: “This site is within one of Leicester’s five regeneration zones, and features in the city’s masterplan. This scheme will kick-start regeneration in the north of the city.”
The new ‘linear park’ will appear at the centre of the new neighbourhood, offering open spaces to all residents living along the Ross Walk – and also to all members of the public.
