Goldsmith swaps Shard for Pinnacle

Shard leasing director James Goldsmith is leaving to take on the same role at 22 Bishopsgate, EC2.

In June, Goldsmith will join AXA Investment Management – Real Assets, which is developing the 1m sq ft City tower previously known as the Pinnacle, from Real Estate Management.

REM is the company which manages £3bn of assets, including the Shard, SE1, for the state of Qatar, Qatar National Bank and Sellar Property.

AXA is working with a consortium including Lipton Rogers, British Colombia Investment Management Corporation, PSP and Temasek to develop 22 Bishopsgate, which is due to complete in early 2019.

Preletting marketing is under way at 22 Bishopsgate through CBRE and JLL. Rents on the top floors are expected to exceed £90 per sq ft and attract media, fintech and professional services firms.

The Shard and 22 Bishopsgate have notable similarities. Both are speculative developments that struggled to get off the ground initially, but have high public profiles and, when complete, will be the two tallest towers in London.

Having let slowly to begin with in the downturn, Goldsmith leaves the Shard almost 90% let. This week media company Dods took 17,000 sq ft in the building.
