Google beefs up its space in Meatpacking district

Google’s property buying spree in New York has continued with the purchase of the Milk Building, a converted warehouse in the trendy Meatpacking district, for about $600m.

The deal brings the value of Google’s property purchases in Manhattan close to $5bn in the past nine years, and comes as the technology group seeks to boost its New York workforce to 16,000 in the next decade.

The Milk Building is an eight-storey, 325,000 sq ft office at 450 West 15th Street. It is connected to Chelsea Market, also owned by Google, by a skybridge above 15th Street. Google employees will occupy three storeys of the building while the leases on other floors run down, according to the Financial Times.
