Google is to press ahead with the development of a major new building at King’s Cross following a period of uncertainty as to whether it would proceed.
The 650,000 sq ft, 10-storey building at the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership’s scheme will be in addition to its existing 380,000 sq ft building at 6 Pancras Square, NW1, and a 180,000 sq ft building on the S2 plot, which is under development and will be ready for occupation next year.
Google bought the land for the biggest building back in 2013 from the owners of the scheme and appointed architects AHMM to draw up designs. These was ultimately rejected by Google however and the tech giant subsequently appointed Thomas Heatherwick to come up with an alternative.
