Stephen Byers has cleared Panther Securities’ controversial plans for a supermarket in Bristol.
The DTLR had called in the 6,500 sq m (69,000 sq ft) food store on Symes Avenue, Hartcliffe in Bristol, because of its size.
The proposals also include 400 parking spaces, 930 sq m (10,000 sq ft) of community facilities, which include a library and advice centre, and 1,860 sq m (20,000 sq ft) of mixed use, smaller shop units.
Panther owns the majority of the existing shopping centre on a long lease from Bristol council. The council also owns the extra land required to accommodate the development.
