The government has invited PFI bids for National Savings’ property needs and its personnel management. The savings organisation could be rationalised from three main locations to two.
Blackpool, which houses Ernie, the Premium Bond computer, could go. It would mean relocating the management of Ernie plus the National Savings register of government gilt-edged stock and the Income Bonds, to either Durham or Glasgow.
A decision is not likely to be taken until the second half of the year.
