Government negotiates with BMW to secure £450m plant at Hams Hall, West Midlands

Government officials are negotiating with BMW to secure a £450m plant at Hams Hall distribution park, on the site of a former powerstation to the north east of Birmingham.

Few industrial projects have raised the hopes of Midlands businesses as much as the prospect of the engine plant, says the Financial Times. Rover plans to build a successor to the Mini there. It is estimated some 11,000 jobs will be created among suppliers. Regional analysts say the scheme will secure the future of the Midlands car industry.
