The government has rejected the majority of East Sussex county council’s claim for emergency spending following the recent floods.
The Association of British Insurers estimates the deluge may have caused up to £500m of damage in total.
East Sussex county council and Lewes district council estimate the cost to them is around £7m. Other councils are still counting the initial costs. The Guardian says damage to bridges and roads may not be fully known until water levels have dropped considerably.
