The government has confirmed that pubs and restaurants will be able to reopen from 4 July, while shrinking the two-metre social distancing rule to “one metre plus”.
Other types of businesses that can reopen include:
- Hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites and caravan parks
- Hairdressers, but with visors worn
- Outdoor gyms and playgrounds, cinemas, museums, galleries, theme parks and arcades, libraries, social clubs, places of worship and community centres.
However, prime minister Boris Johnson said “close proximity” venues such as nightclubs, soft-play areas, indoor gyms, swimming pools, water parks, bowling alleys and spas will remain closed.
Other close-contact services, such as nail bars, will reopen when the government is “confident they can operate in a Covid-secure way”.
In the meantime, courts, probation services, police stations and other public services will “increasingly resume face-to-face proceedings”.
