Govt told to increase SACs

The European Commission and European Environment Agency has ordered Britain to add to the number of special areas of conservation (SAC).

It wants to prevent ruination by development and housing. The move will put Scotland’s plans to downgrade up to a third of its wildlife sites in jeopardy. There are currently 340 sites originally proposed as SACs in the UK
