Great Portland Estates has secured backpackers’ favourite Lonely Planet as its latest London tenant.
Lonely Planet is under offer to take the 12,021 sq ft sixth floor at GPE’s 240 Blackfriars Road scheme, SE1.
A 10-year deal at a rent of around £55 per sq ft has been agreed, according to central London property sources.
The travel media company appointed Matthews & Goodman last year to find it a new London office.
The instruction came after BBC Worldwide agreed a deal in March 2013 to sell Lonely Planet for £51.5m to NC2 Media.
Lonely Planet will relocate from BBC’s Wood Lane premises, W12.
Number 240 Blackfriars Road has been developed by the Great Ropemaker Partnership, a 50:50 joint venture between Great Portland Estates and Ropemaker Properties. Lonely Planet will join tenants at the building including Boodle Hatfield and UBM.
CBRE and DTZ are letting agents on the asset. All declined to comment.
