GPE updates sustainability guidance

GPE has launched a new brief for creating sustainable spaces.

The brief will now apply to all GPE’s spaces, whether empty shells, fitted or fully managed.

It sets out performance requirements for the supply chain to ensure that GPE delivers on its sustainability commitments from design and construction to fit-out and operation.

The developer has also updated its sustainability statement of intent – dubbed “The Time is Now” – to reflect its evolving approach.

Compared with its 2016 baseline, GPE said it had reduced energy intensity by 32.2%, carbon intensity by 66% and improved biodiversity across the portfolio by 62%. Some 43% of its portfolio is now rated EPC B or above, while £768,000 has been allocated to its decarbonisation fund, which was created in 2021.

GPE also delivered its first net zero carbon building at 50 Finsbury Square, EC2 (pictured).

Chief executive Toby Courtauld said: “Supporting the needs of our customers is at the heart of everything we do. The launch of our updated sustainability statement of intent and our brief for creating sustainable spaces underpins this commitment as we evolve our approach to sustainability to deliver the innovative, climate resilient spaces our customers demand – as well as meeting our own targets for the future.”
