Great Bentley, near Colchester, Essex, has been named Great Britain Village of the Year in a competition sponsored by The Daily Telegraph and Calor Gas.
It beat off the likes of Langholm, Dumfriesshire; Silkstone, South Yorkshire; Brewood, Staffordshire; Mere, Wiltshire; St Tudy, Cornwall and Cwmaman, Wales.
The judges called it an “idyllic place to live” with enviable rail and road links.
