Green light for £50m Milton Keynes resi scheme

Property management and development organisation, Places for People, has been given planning permission to build a £50m residential development in Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes Council has given the green light to develop the scheme, which will include environmentally friendly technologies, alongside the Grand Union Canal in the historic railway town.

A key part of the 300-home development, 30% of which will be affordable housing, is the refurbishment of two Grade II listed buildings, the 19th century Railway Train Shed and the Triangle Building, to create 77 two-bedroom town house apartments.

A third listed building, the Reading Room, will be refurbished to provide 27,000 sq ft of leisure, retail and restaurant facilities, along with cultural and heritage space.

David Cowans, Chief Executive of Places for Peoples said: “Places for People has a wealth of experience of regenerating sites across the UK to create vibrant mixed communities where people choose to work and live.

“The Wolverton development will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of the town and provide first-time buyers, key workers or those with young families with affordable and attractive housing built to a high environmental standard.

“As part of Places for People’s commitment to protect the environment, a range of renewable technologies will be incorporated into the development, including wind turbines and recycling of ‘grey’ water.

“All properties will have high levels of insulation to reduce energy costs and have features to reduce water usage.”
