Green light for Glasgow docks masterplan

Inverclyde council has approved a masterplan to kick-start a £45m regeneration of over 30-acres of former docklands west of Glasgow.

Planning permission was granted to transform Victoria Harbour and East India Docks, semi-derelict brownfield sites on the Greenock waterfront, into a mixed-used development.

Residential developer, Turnberry Homes, has submitted a detailed application for 290 properties, the first phase of which will comprise 88 high-quality apartments.

The development will also feature retail and leisure space, including a café bar and restaurant, and a 220-berth marina.

It is hoped that the council and Clydeport-led project, called The Harbours, will launch further waterfront regeneration in Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow.

Port operator Clydeport’s property director, Euan Jamieson, said: “We are delighted with the decision to allow us to get this much-anticipated development underway.

Inverclyde boasts some of the most breathtaking scenery in central Scotland, and yet it remains undervalued as a place to live or work.

“The Harbours is the latest programme of sustainable re-developments, which will transform the area.

“We want to create an attractive and vibrant Inverclyde for generations to come – for local residents, newcomers and visitors to the area.”

The residential component will be developed in four phases, together with key infrastructure works. Development is scheduled to begin in the summer.
