Plans for a 70,000 sq ft retail and restaurant quarter in Guildford have won consent.
Guildford borough council has given the green light for the comprehensive refurbishment of the 1970s built Tunsgate Square Shopping Centre.
Queensberry Real Estate is development manager for the project on behalf of the Merseyside Pension Fund.
Tunsgate Square will see a major revamp, designed by architect Lyons Sleeman Hoare, to make it a distinctive retailing and restaurant quarter on Guildford’s high street.
Queensberry plans to target premium boutique retail and restaurant brands into the new and refurbished shops. Plans include extending the centre by 10,000 sq ft and transforming the high street entrance with a café/restaurant at first floor level overlooking the high street.
Two further levels will be created to the rear of the scheme, and a new roof and atrium will be added. The scheme’s residential units will also be retained.
Work will start on site in summer 2015 and completion is due 12 months later.
CBRE advised on planning; Cushman & Wakefield is letting agent.
