Hull city council has granted planning permission to Siemens to build a turbine blade factory and associated facilities in the city.
The 426,000 sq ft factory will be built on Hull’s Alexandra Dock.
Permission was also granted for office and welfare facilities and a 132,000 sq ft building for storage and maintenance of the wind turbines.
The Alexandra Dock site is 5.8m sq ft. Associated British Ports and Siemens are investing £310m in the Hull project, representing the city’s biggest ever inward investment.
Shaun Cray at Siemens Real Estate said: “The grant of planning permission is a key milestone for this significant development project for Siemens and the UK. Being born and bred in Hull I am particularly delighted and look forward to continuing to work with ABP and the city council to deliver the scheme and to make a positive contribution to the economic regeneration of Hull.”
