Miller Developments has just 100,000 sq ft of space left at its Omega North scheme after winning permission for a mega shed for Travis Perkins.
Work will now begin shortly on the £35m rail connected logistics centre for builders merchant Travis Perkins with completion expected in 2014.
It means more than £100m of sheds are now in the pipeline at Omega North, totalling more than 1m sq ft, with sheds already under construction for Brakes Group and Hermes.
Outline permission was granted for 1.6m sq ft of logistics space at Omega North in 2007 but a period of inactivity had followed until this year.
Warrington borough council leader Terry O’Neill said: “From what was an empty site last autumn, it is amazing to think that by the end of this year, Omega North will only have space left for around 100,000 sq ft of development.”
Miller joint managing director Andrew Sutherland said: “This marks another important step in a very short period for the on-going development of the site, and we are pleased the flow of activity is continuing to progress at pace, reinforcing Omega North’s position as a major logistics hub.”
Travis Perkins chief executive Geoff Cooper said: “We are growing our already extensive product portfolio, and our new RDC (rail connected distribution centre) in Warrington will enhance our offering by improving the supply of products to our branch network.
“We always work hard to put our customers first, and this is another important development.”
In April 2013, Warrington borough council also approved a 600,000 sq ft shed for Asda to be developed by Bericote Properties.
Omega Warrington is a joint venture between Miller and KUC Properties, in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and supported by Warrington council and the Cheshire and Warrington LEP.
JLL and GVA acted for Omega Warrington; Travis Perkins was advised by CP Property Consultants and the Bourne Partnership.
