The London Borough of Tower Hamlets approved Olympian Homes’ plans to develop 795 co-living homes at South Quay within a 46-storey tower in a planning meeting yesterday (5 April).
The 0.5-acre site is located at 56-58 Marsh Wall, E14, and currently comprises a three-storey office building and associated car parking, which will be demolished.
The site falls within the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar Opportunity Area and the Marsh Wall West Site Allocation.
The development will provide 795 studios with associated support facilities, including kitchen, living and dining amenity spaces, lower-floor community amenity areas, co -working spaces, café, cinema and gym, and upper-floor sky lounge amenity spaces, winter gardens and external roof terrace areas.
The planning statement for the scheme, submitted by consultancy DP9, said the scheme will provide “affordable accommodation for London’s working population”.
The statement added: “Co-living offers a simple and all-inclusive model. A single fixed rent ensures a dedicated full-time concierge, a weekly linen change and room cleaning service, free Wi-Fi throughout the building and no hidden extras (bills include council text and utilities).
“Every resident has their own front door to their rooms, which provide storage and desk space, a double bed, kitchenette, shower en-suite and living space.”
