Michael Green is bidding for the UCI cinema chain.
The former chairman of Carlton has held preliminary talks with the Reuben brothers about providing equity for his indicative offer of around £319m.
Other bidders are expected to include Terra Firma, Hg Capital, Robert Tchenguiz and Vue Entertainment.
