UK brewing group Greenalls is planning to refurbish a listed theatre in the centre of Cardiff as a themed bar featuring a bank of video screens.
The proposal was unveiled as the Warrington-based company announced the disposal of six US hotels for £14m.
Greenalls will build a 600 sq m (6,458 sq ft) scheme in the theatre, which will include a galleried floor and a large centrally located square bar.
The group has also won consent for the conversion of the Iisted Pump House at Graving Docks, Cardiff Bay, as a bar and restaurant. It is believed to be spending around £2m on the development.
Greenalls’ US sell-off made a £1.75m book-value loss. The properties were bought by the Shaner Hotel Group of State College, Pennsylvania.
Greenalls recently signalled its commitment to the UK market by investing around £16m in several new hotels.
