Greene King in at Pipeworks

Greene King has signed up to Rokeby Developments’ and Peveril Securities’ Pipeworks retail and leisure scheme in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire.

Greene King has acquired a long lease for a 6,000 sq ft Hungry Horse pub and restaurant. It paid £1.25m for the new venue, which will be in the restored buildings at the former Wraggs Pipes and Hepworth’s production plant.

The £20m project is set to open in the autumn. It will also be home to 10 other occupiers including Aldi, Iceland, Argos, Home Bargains, Peacocks and a five-screen Reel Cinema.

Frank McArdle, chief executive of South Derbyshire district council, said: “The influx of shoppers and visitors to the town that this development will bring will add considerably to the ongoing renovation of Swadlincote. It is extremely encouraging that the potential of the town can now attract major leisure operators and retailers to complement the High Street.”

Stephen Smart & Company and Knight Frank are advising on the scheme.
