Regional brewer and pub company Green King is believed to be weighing up a £70m offer for Loch Fyne, the seafood and restaurant business.
Pub companies are becoming increasingly interested in snapping up restaurant chains as they focus more on selling food in the wake of the smoking ban in Britain.
Loch Fyne has 35 outlets.
