Greggs bakes in growth with SmartParc SEGRO Derby deal
Greggs has signed a lease agreement for a new frozen manufacturing and logistics facility at SmartParc SEGRO Derby in order to support a rapid expansion in its number of shops.
SEGRO will construct the building on its site in Spondon, Derby, where Greggs will occupy a 23-acre plot. It is expected to be operational by late 2026, with up to 600 jobs located there.
The facility will allow Greggs to increase its manufacturing capacity while the logistics element will feature fully automated robotic order-picking designed to improve efficiencies.

Greggs currently has 2,500 shops in the UK, with between 140 and 160 new outlets due to open this year. It believes the new site will provide enough capacity to support up to 3,500 shops.
Sustainability elements have been incorporated into the design, with a heating and cooling system that recycles heat from the refrigeration plants. It will also feature rainwater harvesting, solar panels, EV charging points and bike storage.
SmartParc chief executive Jackie Wild said: “It is our ultimate vision that SmartParc SEGRO Derby becomes a hub for forward-thinking food businesses seeking sustainable and efficient operations, a collaborative workspace and a first-class location with excellent connectivity, while also putting their people first.”
