Greggs plans national distribution hub at Symmetry Park Kettering

Greggs is set to operate a new national distribution centre at Symmetry Park Kettering in Northamptonshire.

Tritax Symmetry is bringing forward a planning application for the construction of 311,551 sq ft of logistics space on a 25.1-acre site. The developer is also seeking planning permission for an additional 100,000 sq ft to enable Greggs to expand the site further.

Subject to planning consent, Greggs expects the Symmetry Park Kettering premises to be operational in the first half of 2027. The facility is expected to bolster the bakery chain’s capacity to directly supply ambient and chilled products to a growing portfolio of shops.

The move forms part of Greggs’ strategic growth plan, announced in 2021, which sets out expansion targets requiring investment in supply chain capacity. Greggs currently has 2,500 shops with a target to grow the estate to more than 3,000 shops in the UK.

The distribution centre will be a key part of Symmetry Park Kettering, which extends to 136 acres in total and has outline planning permission for 2.31m sq ft of logistics floor space overall.

The park is currently home to Iron Mountain, a US-based data centre storage provider, which has occupied a 313,000 sq ft unit on a 15-year lease since 2023.

Agents BNP Paribas Real Estate, Cushman & Wakefield and DTRE acted for Tritax Symmetry; Wright Silverwood represented Greggs.
