A major new housing development opportunity in Fulham, SW6, is being prepared for market by National Grid.
The electricity and gas provider has appointed Drivers Jonas Deloitte to examine development options for the 17-acre plot on Imperial Road.
A sale of the site, or appointment of a joint venture partner, forms part of National Grid’s ongoing strategy to develop out its high-value disused sites and offload as many as 500 lower-value sites.
A spokesman said: “The appointment will allow National Grid to work with Drivers Jonas Deloitte who will provide support to review the strategic options on the site.”
The area, known as South Fulham Riverside, has seen a boom in residential development over recent years.
In February, Tony Pidgley’s Berkeley Group secured planning permission for 489 homes on the 7.5-acre Chelsea Creek, adjacent to Imperial Wharf. At nearby Lots Road, Hutchinson Whampoa has consent to transform the former power station into 297 homes; and at Fulham Wharf, Barratt Developments and London & Quadrant will deliver 463 flats and a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Hammersmith and Fulham council has a vision of creating 2,200 homes in the area over the next decade.
Its core strategy states: “By the 2020s, South Fulham Riverside will be a high-quality and vibrant stretch of residential-based riverside development.
“It will be well integrated with the residential hinterland and waterside, providing easy access to the river and riverside facilities.”
Capita Symonds is advising National Grid on the sale of its lower-value sites.
