Wirral Council has appointed Grimley to draw up a regeneration strategy for Tranmere Urban Village. The council anticipates that as much as £10m of investment from the public and private sector could flow into the area.
The study will look at the reasons for the decline of the retail sector on Old Chester Road and Church Road, the need to attract additional retailers into the area and to realise opportunities for mixed development. The Urban Village already benefits from Single Regeneration Budget and Regional Challenge Funds.
Gerry Hughes, Grimley partner responsible for the project, said: “We are delighted to be involved in another Urban Village project. The concept of mixed use development, creating sustainable communities and utilitising the Urban Village format, is gathering considerable momentum.”
Taylor Young Urban Design will assist on the study which Grimley expects to complete by the end of November.
