Grosvenor/Henderson to build 1m sq ft Liverpool retail scheme

Redevelopment of a key site in central Liverpool has moved a step closer with the council’s decision to appoint Grosvenor and Henderson Investors as developers of a 92,900 sq m (1m sq ft) shopping scheme on a 4-6 ha (10-15 acre) site on Paradise Street.

North-west regeneration specialist Urban Splash will also be involved in certain aspects of the Paradise Street scheme.

Grosvenor/Henderson beat off competition from a shortlist of international developers including a joint venture between Land Securities and Bluewater developer Lend Lease. Hammerson, Capital Shopping Centres and Australian giant Westfield were also shortlisted.

If the selection is ratified by the council next week, the scheme will be worked up for a planning application by the end of the year.

Healey & Baker acted as development consultant to the council. Last year, the firm drew up a report which indicated that Liverpool needed an extra 92,900 sq m (1m sq ft) of retail.
