Grosvenor lodges plans for sustainable garden village

Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has lodged plans for a 2,200-home sustainable garden village in West Oxfordshire.

An outline planning application submitted to the district council includes new primary and secondary schools, sports facilities, parks, and more than 600,000 sq ft of employment space designed for advanced manufacturing businesses.

Grosvenor will deliver a net biodiversity gain on the site, 20% of the village’s energy will use renewable sources, and all homes will be energy efficient.

The entire site will use electricity for heating and hot water, saving up to 80% of carbon emissions. Walking and cycling will be encouraged through a network of green routes.

The site, on land to the north of Eynsham, was one of the government’s 14 garden villages endorsed in 2017.

Grosvenor was appointed by local landowners to bring forward the site. The application is the largest to date for Grosvenor’s strategic land division which aims to have a portfolio of at least 30,000 homes by 2023.

Project director Silvia Lazzerini said: “From the outset our vision has been to create a new community which respects the natural environment – a place where people and nature can not only live alongside one another, but actually thrive together.”
