Grosvenor scheme adjudged best of the best at BCO awards
A development in London by the Duke of Westminsters property company, Grosvenor, was voted the best office building in Britain last night.
40 Grosvenor Place (pictured), the 19,973 sq m (215 000 sq ft) development occupied by US energy giant Enron, won the “best of the best” prize in the British Council for Offices awards, which are supported by Estates Gazette.
Over 700 attended the inaugural awards dinner in London at which 21 prizes were presented to the development and design teams.
The awards, which are made at both regional and national level, are divided into four categories: Corporate, Commercial, Refurbishment, and Fit-out.
The National Winners were:
- Corporate: Citygroup Centre, Canary Wharf, designed by Foster & Partners
- Commercial: 40 Grosvenor Place, designed by HOK International for Grosvenor and its JV partner Mountcity Investments
- Refurbishment: Central Square Newcastle, designed by Carey Jones Architects for developer Parabola Estates
- Fit-out: St Magnus House, Aberdeen by architect Barr Gazetas for Enterprise Oil

- Commercial Workplace: 23 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh
- Refurbished Workplace: Scottish & Newcastle Group HQ, Edinburgh
- Fit-out of Workplace: St Magnus House, Aberdeen
The North of England/Northern Ireland Regional Awards
- Commercial Workplace: Prince’s Exchange, Aire St, Leeds
- Refurbished Workplace: Central Square, Newcastle
The Midlands Regional Awards
- Corporate Workplace: Arup Campus, Blythe Valley Park, Solihull
- Refurbished Workplace: Capital One UK operations centre, Trent House, Nottingham
