Grouse shooting estates hoping for more glorious 2019 season

Scottish estates are hoping the “Glorious Twelfth” opening of the grouse shooting season on Monday will herald a “year of recovery” for the sport after disastrous weather in 2018 left moors badly short of birds. But any relief at what will at least be a limited rebound in grouse numbers will be clouded by gathering political storm clouds in the shape of growing protests from environmentalists and animal rights activists against a sport that has dominated upland moors in Scotland and northern England since Victorian times.
