The Guardian is in discussions about a possible move to Manchester, potentially occupying the former Granada TV studios.
It is also looking at apartments in the city centre as temporary accommodation for staff.
Property developer Allied London, which bought the studios, said it was in talks with a media company regarding office and living space. While chief executive Michael Ingall did not name the company, people with knowledge of the matter said it was The Guardian.
