Guardian space gets King’s Cross backing

A new events space for the Guardian Media Group is one of a series of new schemes recommended for approval at King’s Cross Central , N1.


Ahead of a Camden council meeting on 8 May, planning officers have recommended that reserved matters for plans for a D&D restaurant, Guardian events space and Waitrose cookery school at the 67-acre regeneration site, be approved.


The detailed proposals recommended include


• a Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners-designed 30,000 sq ft educational events space to be used by the Guardian at the grade II-listed Midland Goods Shed and East Handyside Canopy site;


• Bennetts Associates-designed plans for the Midland Goods Shed for circa 30,000 sq ft for a Waitrose supermarket and cookery school ; and


• converting the 19th century German gymnasium into a 10,000 sq ft restaurant-led scheme .


The schemes will sit on King’s Cross Central, which is being regenerated by the Argent-led King’s Cross Central Partnership.


DTZ and Savills are commercial letting agents on the site.
