Northampton council and West Northamptonshire Development have appointed GVA and professional support services provider AECOM to support local development orders in the Northampton Waterside enterprise zone.
The EZ, the 297-acre St Peter’s Waterside, stretches from opposite Northampton train station to near Carlsberg’s UK headquarters. It is one of three proposed LDOs initially being prepared, with the others covering a series of sites on the western edge of the zone.
The introduction of the LDO for the central part of the zone will simplify planning regulations.
AECOM and GVA will carry out technical studies assessing infrastructure requirements, and produce a design guide for the area. The LDO will be open to public consultation before the end of the year and subsequently confirmed in 2013.
Peter Mawson, WNDC’s chief executive, said: “The local development order is part of a wider strategy to regenerate a series of brownfield sites in the area. This includes a compulsory purchase order which we started in May to drive development forward.”
