Bilfinger GVA has been appointed to advise Staffordshire University on the sale of land and buildings at its Beaconside campus.

Situated off Weston Road, near Stafford, the site extends to 50 acres and is home to a mix of buildings, including academic, leisure and housing, totalling in excess of 350,000 sq ft.

The university will vacate its Beaconside site in 2016 and transfer all computing and entertainment technology degrees to its Stoke-on-Trent campus.

However, its nursing and midwifery, paramedic and public health courses are to remain based in Stafford at its Blackheath Lane site.

The decision means most of the Beaconside site, comprising extensive teaching, conferencing, and office accommodation, together with sports facilities, will become surplus to requirement.

Bilfinger GVA will now advise the university on the best options to ensure it is utilised effectively in the future.

The former Nelson library has already been sold to make way for a school, with refurbishment works underway.

Other areas have a planning allocation for residential use, while parts may be more suited to either re-use or redevelopment, all of which would need to be taken through the planning process prior to implementation.

GVA senior director Carl Potter said: “We are delighted to have been selected to assist Staffordshire University in this work. This is a unique blend of accommodation and the size and scale of the campus could well suit an organisation with a need to accommodate a diverse and growing workforce within a single self-contained complex.”
